A long road that goes far
Edison Next has been sharing energy data and objectives, basic information for designing decarbonisation processes, with Flint Group since 2008. As a comprehensive energy partner, Edison Next covers the Group’s sustainable self-generation, with the design and management of the cogenerator at the Caronno Pertusella site (VA), performance monitoring by means of the Energy Management system, an energy efficient LED lighting system and energy advisory services for exploiting regulatory opportunities.

The customer: Flint Group
Flint Group, a world leading producer of print inks for packaging in direct and indirect contact with food, has a global sustainability programme in place that includes the Italian activities described here. Flint Group operates in an industry extremely sensitive to food safety and sustainability issues in all its activities and environmental impact is undoubtedly a key factor in Flint Group’s industrial businesses worldwide. The company’s mission, in fact, is “Responsibly providing colour to enhance everyday life”.

The solution
Thanks to our energy engineering know-how, in-depth knowledge of safety and strategic expertise in technological innovation and regulatory matters, we were able to provide the customer with various solutions to save costs and reduce consumption.

Cogeneration
We installed a 530 kWel natural gas-fired cogenerator for electrical and thermal energy generation serving the production process.

The results
We designed a decarbonisation journey that started with the drafting of a diagnosis of the site’s energy performance and an analysis of all the potential for optimization through management and plant engineering interventions planned in line with technical and economic priorities. The results were surprising, given that the plant was always kept in operation, with considerable energy savings and a resulting reduction in environmental impact.
