Making our communities sustainable

The Puglia Hydrogen Valley project refers to the construction of three green hydrogen production plants in Brindisi, Taranto and Cerignola (FG) and involves, alongside Edison and Saipem, some important local players in Puglia, including Acquedotto Pugliese (water), Ferrovie Apulo Lucane (railway), Apulian technology and production districts, Bari Politecnico and Bari, Foggia and Salento Universities.

The project: Puglia Hydrogen Valley

Puglia Hydrogen Valley is the first project to develop green hydrogen in Italy and will make it possible to maximize synergy with surrounding areas and favour the development of the know-how needed to create a local supply chain. The project also applied for EU funding (Ipcei - Important Projects of Common European Interest).

Objectives

The initiative focuses on using green hydrogen to replace fossil fuels in energy-intensive industrial processes and make heavy transport sustainable.

Acceleration of green hydrogen availability
Local sustainability
Decarbonisation of heavy transport

Edison NEXT’s solution

Green hydrogen is a key technology for Edison and Italy, development plan. The green hydrogen production plant to be built in Brindisi will employ electrolysers with a capacity of 60 Mw fed by a dedicated photovoltaic park.
